Backyard Flora and Fauna
69So many pictures - so little time...
At the risk of seeming boring, I decided to post a few pictures of my backyard walks that didn't make it into the previous hubs. It was such a difficult decision finding the perfect shot, and like a nervous mother I didn't want the rest of my work to go unsung.
Once you start taking pictures of your surroundings, you never look at things the same way. Photo opportunities leap to my eye as I survey the countryside - never mind that the subject matter is similar, the simple act of changing the viewpoint gives each photograph a unique quality, and I find myself taking picture after picture! (It's a good thing I have a digital camera - I would need a second mortgage to develop all my photos!)
So without further ado, I would like to present a few of my favorites.
Mushroom soup
I was so amazed by the amount of fungi on this tree, I just had to capture the image! No matter how many times we travel the same trails, I always find the scenery captivating - the way the light filters through the giant trees, the carpets of moss and lichen that cover the undergrowth, or the myriad fungi that flourish under the rain forest's canopy.
Undergrowth is beautiful
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and nature clothes her children in elegant, timeless attire that these eyes find irresistable.
A boy and his dog
No gallery would be complete without the addition of a timeless joy - a boy and his dog. Watching these two traipsing along the trails makes my heart happy, and obviously gives both of them much enjoyment as well.
Water, water everywhere...
The correct completion of that saying is "...and not a drop to drink..." however, in this case there is a drop to drink! I know, I am supposed to boil it first, but it is so fresh and cold that I can't help myself...
Paper lanterns
The light shining through the parchment-like leaves of this sapling reminded me of those delicate money trees with their transluscent, sand dollar leaves.
Fairy rings
These specimens had me searching the undergrowth for brownies and sprites! If you close your eyes, you can imagine tiny beings on gossamer wings flitting from toadstool to toadstool.
Smiling dog
Our walks are a joy for everyone in the party - including our four-footed friends. Such simple pleasure, and such fun to share it - who says exercise is boring?
Mother Nature's jewellery
Pristine in its simplicity and with more sparkle than diamonds, this beautiful necklace showcases Mother Nature's talent to accessorize.
Brownie bites...
These little mushrooms look so soft and comfy, just begging for a Brownie to rest his head. I think we made too much noise, because no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find one pixie face peeking out from under these umbrellas.
As with all good things, this too must come to an end. I hope you have enjoyed viewing some of my favorite photos as much as I have enjoyed bringing them to you.
I hope to have another Backyard installment ready to post before the New Year, so stay turned!
You have quite an eye, Enelle! Lovely photos - makes me yearn for the West Coast! Hey - I beat dohn121 to your hub! Amazing :) Just kidding, Dohn - you're probably busy finishing up Chapter 11 of Revenge Inc. :D
Sorry I didn't visit this hub sooner, Enelle! What gorgeous photos! With each of these pics, you could easily turn them into postcards! Your writing and descriptions compliment them well :) Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
Ahh....lovely! No wonder you were moved to write a song or two! :)
Wonderful!!! Looks so pristine. Reminds me of our insect collection trips in the rain forests of Luzon, Philippines.
Nothing boring about something so beautiful!
